44 Theatrical Performances Contesting in Three Competitions in CIFET

The director of Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theater (CIFET), artist Saeed Kabil announced during a press conference held at the Supreme Council of Culture the number of shows participating in the twenty-ninth edition of CIFET in three diversified competitions, stating: this year, 44 performances from all over the world are competing. As for the official competition, (14) performances from different countries -Egypt, Tunisia, Kuwait, Syria, Iraq, Morocco, Italy, Canada, Austria, the USA, and Greece- are competing.

Regarding the short performances’ competition, (16) theatrical performances -ranging from 15-30 minutes- are participating from various countries and states: Egypt, Libya, the United Arab Emirates, and Switzerland. The jury of this competition includes the artist Mohsen Mansour as the head, along with the members: Dr. Asmaa Yahia Al-Taher and decorator Hazem Shebl.

Concerning the experimental theater club, (14) theatrical shows are participating from multiple governorates of the Arab Republic of Egypt: Beni Suef, Ismailia, Red Sea, Asyut, Minya, Giza, Cairo, Mansoura, Sharqia, Beheira, and Alexandria.

It is noteworthy that the 29th edition of CIFET bears the name of the world-famous playwright Peter Brook. The 29th edition is scheduled to take place between 1-8 September, chaired by Dr. Gamal Yakout and held under the auspices of the Minister of Culture, Dr. Nevine Al-Kilani.
