The Cairo international festival for experimental theatre (CIFET) (28th edition) is organizing an International Exhibition of Unconventional Avant-Garde Theatre Designs (Set – Costumes – lighting – scenography – space design, etc…) from the 14th to the 19th of December 2021.
Innovative designs that use unique formations, materials, and create dramatic avant-garde connections are the priority. In addition to the show designs presented in places adapted for theatrical performance with innovative relationships – between the performance area and the audience – different from the traditional form of the Proscenium theater.

Exhibition Criteria
Applications to the International Exhibition of Unconventional Avant-Garde Theatre Designs 2021 exhibitions must be realized performances, installations, site-specific events, etc… and are not limited to a production year.The deadline for receiving the complete application is October 20, 2021. The complete application should include the following: complete Information, high-quality pictures of the design, and pictures from the performance itself showing the whole theatre/ the display area; in a way that shows the executed design and its relation to other elements in the performance.
The exhibition team in Cairo will manage the printing, hanging, and installation process. The exhibitors are invited and encouraged to attend the 6 days of The International Exhibition of Unconventional Avant-Garde Theatre Designs 2021 while their work is on display. The cost of traveling to Cairo is the responsibility of the individual exhibitor. The exhibitor agreement will be available upon notification of acceptance to the competition.
Designers participating in the exhibition that would like to participate in person and come to Egypt will receive an official invitation to attend the exhibition, festival performances, and events. They will have discounted accommodation rates in the official hotel of the festival.
The exhibition brochure will include designs pictures, data of all accepted designs presented in Arabic and English. Every exhibitor will receive a free copy.
Selection Process
The Selection Juries approved by The International Exhibition of Unconventional Avant-Garde Theatre Designs 2021 Planning Committee will make the final selection from the digital submissions to curate the exhibition to be assembled in Cairo. Designers who are selected for the exhibit are required to send HD photos for their designs.
Submission Deadline: October 31, 2021.
The shortlisted applications will be announced by the selection committee by the second week of November 2021.
